Don't be a fool...

Yesterday we went to the Sunday service at the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland. It sure was an amazing experience, where we were welcomed with powerful gospel music, lots of hugs and some quite strong messages...
Look, we're all dressed up in our Sunday clothes!

Ah, Birta, you're great! Thanks for posting this. And thanks, everybody, for attending. I enjoyed having you there, as did the congregation.

This Sunday's service, at Harmony Missionary Baptist, compared with last Sunday's, at First African Methodist Episcopalian up the street, was definitely "noisier" as I was told, by a kind elderly lady member of that church, to expect.

Regarding foolishness, Washington Phillips, a travelling preacher who recorded some gospel songs in the 1920s, had this to say in the song "Denomination Blues":

You can go to your college,
You can go to your school,
But if you don't have Jesus
You're an educated fool...

Yes, I felt pretty overwhelmed by the service. It left me kind of speechless.

What an experience! I'm glad I went. Surreal, and yes, it was Loud. The voices were quite amazing--FAITH: Say Amen, Somebody. It was great when the reverend asked the 'kind young man in the bowtie that he had met at the flower shop' to stand up, and everyone applauded.
