Futureman's Synthaxe Drumitar

The Synthaxe Drumitar was invented by Futureman, stage name of Royel Wooten, brother of bassist Victor Wooten, both members of the quartet Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

I own a couple of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones’ albums and from what I’ve listened to, albeit not very often, they aren’t exactly my cup of tea. And they definitely aren’t from the music schools of Ollie Gilbert (from Max Hunter) or Jasmine (our “everyperson” featured on YouTube), AND they definitely aren’t from 50 years ago (heck, Futureman is from 50 years ahead for all we know). But Béla Fleck himself is considered one of the world’s most virtuosic banjoists and Victor Wooten one of the top bassists.

wow! that looks like so much fun to play with! this makes me want to listen to bela fleck and the flecktones. i've seen some videos of victor wooten before, and i was blown away. i didn't know he was one of the flecktones. the synthaxe drumitar just pushed it over the edge, though. that's totally amazing!

ya, I saw the Flecktones about two years ago back east in DC at a small venue. They are unbelievably accomplished musicians, all four of them (though of course Wooten and Bela Fleck did stand out), but I would have to agree with Anthony that they aren't my cup of tea either. At the show, each one of them took a 20-30 min. solo where the other three band members left the stage completely. I have to say that the drumitar session was probably the most interesting of the four. They all showed off as much as possible. For me, the fact that the music was so technically accomplished made it less beautiful. There was too much going on at once. I prefer beauty in simplicity.
